Cold Email Conversion Rate Guide
Understand conversion rates across your cold email funnel from reply to booked call to closed client.
What is cold email conversion rate?
Cold email conversion rate measures how many recipients take a desired action — replying, booking a call, or becoming a client. It is typically measured at each stage of your funnel: reply rate, positive reply rate, booked call rate, and close rate.
Conversion funnel stages
1. Reply rate
The percentage of recipients who reply to your email. Typically 3–8% for cold outreach.
2. Positive reply rate
The percentage of replies that express interest. Usually 30–50% of all replies.
3. Booked call rate
The percentage of positive replies that result in a booked call. Often 40–70%.
4. Close rate
The percentage of booked calls that become paying clients. Typically 10–30%.
How to calculate overall conversion
Overall conversion from email sent to client = reply rate × positive reply rate × booked call rate × close rate. For example: 5% × 40% × 50% × 20% = 0.2% overall. That means 1 client per 500 emails sent.
How to improve conversion rates
- Improve your offer. A compelling offer increases every stage of the funnel.
- Refine targeting. Better-fit prospects convert at higher rates.
- Optimize your call process. Strong discovery and pitch skills improve close rates.
- Follow up. Most conversions happen after multiple touches.
